Ordered Lists

Create a countdown of three tasks using a reversed ordered list.

Understand the topic

An ordered list communicates sequence, ranking, or steps. Its start attribute can set the first number, reversed counts downward, and a li value can change a specific item number. Use these when numbering is meaningful. If items are merely a collection, use ul instead of choosing ol just for its default appearance.

Worked example

<ol start="3"><li>Save the page</li><li>Refresh the browser</li><li>Check the result</li></ol>

The first item begins at three, which can continue instructions introduced elsewhere. The numbering comes from the list rather than manually typed text.

Practice

Create a countdown of three tasks using a reversed ordered list.

Show a suggested answer
<ol reversed><li>Review your work</li><li>Save your file</li><li>Publish the page</li></ol>

Common mistake

Do not type numbers into li text when the list already supplies them. Manual numbers become wrong when items move.
