Other Lists
Write a glossary entry explaining URL.
Understand the topic
A description list associates terms with descriptions. Use dl for the collection, dt for a term, and dd for its explanation. A term can have multiple descriptions and related terms can share a description. This structure suits glossaries, metadata, and short question-and-answer pairs when the relationship is more important than numbering.
Worked example
<dl><dt>HTML</dt><dd>Describes document structure.</dd><dt>CSS</dt><dd>Controls presentation.</dd></dl>
Each dt introduces the term described by the following dd. Neither dt nor dd uses li.

<dl><dt>URL</dt><dd>An address identifying a resource on the web.</dd></dl>Common mistake
Do not choose dl solely to indent text. Use it when the content really consists of names or terms and descriptions.
