HTML Quotations
Quote a short original sentence of your own and provide a visible attribution.
Understand the topic
Use blockquote for a longer passage quoted from another source and q for a short inline quotation. A cite attribute can hold the source URL, but it is not displayed automatically. Provide visible attribution when readers need it. The cite element names a creative work, while abbr can provide the expanded form of an abbreviation.
Worked example
<blockquote cite="https://example.com/interview">
<p>Practice turns a difficult idea into a familiar habit.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>From <cite>A Learning Journal</cite>, an example interview.</p>
<p>The tutor said <q>start small</q>.</p>
<p><abbr title="HyperText Markup Language">HTML</abbr> structures pages.</p>
The blockquote contains the quotation and a separate paragraph supplies attribution. q usually receives quotation marks from the browser.

<blockquote><p>Each saved page is another step forward.</p></blockquote>
<p>From <cite>My Study Notes</cite>.</p>Common mistake
Do not use blockquote just to indent text. CSS can indent a paragraph without falsely presenting it as a quotation.
